Immerse in an ECO-Tour and Experience Southwest Florida Islands by Boat

“Captain Brian Holaway is well versed in the intricacies of our unmatched locale. He can guide to and through a multitude of out-of-the way tidal creeks, bayous, keys and islands. More important is his passionate interest and respect for the region. With unique insights from his many explorations and his studies, not only does he identify the birds and wildlife that inhabit our semi-tropical watery land, but he explains their interconnectedness to their environment and each other. In addition, he shares the fascinating history of rugged people who came long before us: Florida Native Indians, the Calusa, the Spanish, the Cubans, early homesteaders, and the wisdom evident in the growth of their culture.

You will come away with great enjoyment and a new understanding of this beautiful place and its history.”

Landscape With Edna

Cross Canadian Ragweed  was singing, "On your own" When I took this shot, But it was Edna St. Vincent Millay, I kept thinking about, "My candle burns at both ends: It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends-It gives a lovely light." You gotta love Edna.

Today

Today was a beautiful day on the water. I watched the sunrise and the sunset. In between  the sun's activity I was busy watching nature and educating along the way. Many photos were taken. Hope you enjoy these. Capt. Brian

Shelling Family

You can never learn enough about shells. This family knows their shells. Pat, Jen, Izzy, Ben ,Ursla and dad. I find myself researching uncommon shells they find on every trip. Ben found wentletraps, Jen found  a fossilized shark tooth, (in a very unique place) an amazing worm shell and a few semele shells with different colors. Izzy found a large rice shell. It was a shelling frenzy on the sandbar. The young shellers Ben and Izzy amaze me every time we go out. I am always learning more from this family."

Stefan and Dorit

Stefan is a lifelong sheller and Dorit is a photographer. We watched the sunrise on the water and dolphins playing in the heavy surf. Dorit took some great shots of the dolphin surfing in the high waves. Stefan was very interesting to talk to about shells. He has a large collection of shells and a superb collection of strombus from all over the world. He wanted to find a crested tellin and we did. He went home to Germany with two crested tellins and Dorit went home with great photographs.  I enjoyed the conversations with both Stefan and Dorit. I look forward to seeing them again when they are in Florida.

Team Dawson

I enjoyed showing the Dawson Family (aka Team Dawson) around the islands. Team Dawson is Mark, Alicia, Aubree, Davis, Cale and Bram. We started by exploring the sandbar off of Captiva. The kids had fun swimming and playing in the water and enjoying the birdlife on this little spit of sand. Next it was off to a remote beach where we shelled and explored. The kids enjoyed the live shells we observed while their mom enjoyed the shells and solitude on the beach.
Thank you Team Dawson for a fun day of exploring.
Keep on shelling!  Capt. Brian

For Margaret

Here are a few photos for Margaret. She has been missing the shores, shells and solitude in the places just off the far horizon. Hope you enjoy the photos! Capt. Brian
