Chicago Sisters Shelling

We left the dock as the moon was falling and the sun was rising. Our first stop was on the flats. We observed many live shells, took pictures and set them back in the water. The flats are a peaceful place to be in the early a.m. hours. Next it was off to a sandbar in the Gulf. Well what do you know the sandbar that was there 24 hours previously was now not there. Next we went to a new little favorite spot where the beach was quiet and full of shells. I am looking forward to our next adventure later this week.

Sheri and Sam Collecting Seashells

Sheri and Sam are veteran shellers to the Islands. We started the trip by going to a small sand spit in the Gulf of Mexico. Next it was off to favorite island number one. Sam shelled, swam and played on her boogie board. Sheri has an excellent shelling eye. She had many good finds, a worm shell, gaudy natica, common nutmeg and many beautiful olives.  I enjoyed shelling with  both Sam and Sheri and hearing about their latest horse stories. I look forward to next year's trip.

Shelling Family

 

This family was a blast! The whole family loved and knew all of their shells. The weather was perfect. It's always fun to see the big smiles on the kid's faces after collecting shells. Dylan had a great time snorkeling and finding olive shells. He was out of the boat before I even had the anchor set.  Kloë found a great alphabet cone, many beautiful fighting conchs and sand dollars.   Kamden Shell (how can you go wrong with a middle name like Shell?), she was cute as a button and enjoyed finding sand dollars and just swimming around in the water.  This was a great day with a great family and I look forward to the next trip!

Fun Time With Dean And Bonnie

I always enjoy taking long time visitors Dean and Bonnie to the islands and out on the water. Dean and Bonnie are troopers and are always up for whatever adventure comes our way. Bonnie found many olives and nice whelks. Dean found one of the largest pear whelks I have ever seen, but it was alive so we took a picture and but it back in the water. We also saw bobcat tracks and a new sea turtle nest. It is unusual to see a sea turtle nest this late in the season. Time passed by fast as we were walking, talking and shelling. I look forward to our next adventure!
